The Austrail Flexi Pass is the ideal way to experience Australia within a designated time frame. The Austrail Flexi Pass offers flexibility across all participating rail companies and is available for travel over 15 or 22 days in a six month period from the first day of travel.

East Coast Discovery Pass

The East Coast Discovery Pass allows unlimited travel in one direction with this six month pass. Simply choose from one of the six sector travel options available below.

The East Coast Discovery Pass also includes the following “Value Adds” for 2006/07

- Coach connections to Hervey Bay, Yeppoon and Whitsundays, Byron Bay, Port Macquarie, Yamba
  and Forster
- CityTrain connections between Robina (Gold Coast) and Brisbane or vice versa on passes
  Sydney / Melbourne to Cairns
- 50% discount to travel back to the point of origin in New South Wales and Queensland
- 50% discount travel on one outback journey in New South Wales and one outback journey in

Travel Conditions

The East Coast Discovery Pass is available for unlimited travel on CountryLink and Queensland Rail Traveltrain east coast services in one direction only, either north or south, between locations endorsed on the ticket.  (Travel on the Cairns Tilt Train is applicable however surcharges apply)

Travel on Sydney CityRail services is only allowed in conjunction with a connecting CountryLink service

Travel is not available on Brisbane Citytrain service and Melbourne metropolitan services

Use of this pass must begin within six months of the date of issue and be completed within six months from the first validity date.

This pass is available on mainline CountryLink and Queensland Rail East Coast Rail and Integrated Coach services only.

Backtracker Rail Pass

The Backtracker Rail Pass allows unlimited travel on the XPT and The XPLORER rail services and connecting coach services to over 360 destinations within NSW. The Backtracker Rail Pass also provides access to the capital cities of Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Canberra. 

The Backtracker Rail Pass is valid from the first day of travel for either 14 days, 1, 3 or 6 months for consecutive travel in any direction. 

At least AUD$40 of Sydney CityRail services are included with the Backtracker Rail Pass providing access to the Blue Mountains and Bondi Beach.

Travel Conditions

The Backtracker Rail Pass is available for unlimited travel in economy seating on CountryLink services throughout New South Wales, between Sydney and Melbourne, and Sydney and Brisbane.

Use of the pass must begin within six months of the date of issue and be completed within the validity period from the first validity date.

A travel “day” is a period of 24 hours, or less, from the scheduled departure time of a service.  Eg, an overnight trip 2100/0900 is regarded as one “day”

Travel on Sydney CityRail services is allowed in conjunction with a connecting CountryLink service.

Travel is not available on Brisbane City Train services and Melbourne metropolitan service.

The Backtracker Rail pass is only available to foreign passport holder.  Clients should be advised to carry their passports with them at all times as railway staff may wish to check it against the passport numbers endorsed on the pass.

Great Southern Railway Pass

Travel on The Ghan, Indian Pacific and The Overland in any direction as often as you like for a six month period from the first day of travel. Destinations accessible with the Great Southern Railway Pass include Perth, Kalgoorlie, Adelaide, Broken Hill, Sydney. Melbourne, Alice Springs (gateway to Uluru/Ayers Rock) and Darwin via Katherine.
 

Travel Conditions

The Great Southern Railway Pass is only available to holders of foreign (non-Australian) passports and non Australian residents.  Clients should be advised to carry their passports with them at all times as railway staff may wish to check it against the passport numbers endorsed on the pass.

The pass is valid for travel in a Red Kangaroo Daynighter Seat, for unlimited travel on the Great Southern Railway network over a six month period, which starts on the day the pass is validated (first day of actual travel).  The pass must be validated within 6 month of purchase.

Upgrade to sleeping berths is available.  Surcharges apply.  Rates can be obtained by contacting Rail Australia.

Pre-bookings for all trains is required at least 24 hours in advance – phone 13 21 47 (within Australia)

The Student/Backpacker fare is available to International full time students 16 years and over.  ID from a recognised institution is required.  Also available to members of recognised backpacker associations, verification required.

Children can obtain the Student/Backpacker fare if required.

To ensure clients obtain maximum value from their pass, they should be strongly advised to reserve space on as many rail sectors as possible – before arrival in Australia.

All guests should be advised to be at the rail station at least 90 minutes prior to departure when first exchanging the voucher/ticket for the rail pass
